Here is a list of terms that are often used when you are playing mafia. If you are new to mafia, you will see such terms being used a lot so it might get confusing. I grouped a list of the most commonly used terms: --- Wolfy/Towny: If you hear someone saying '' This person has wolfy Gameplay '' that means that this person is playing like an evil, that this person is suspicious. ''This person is playing towny'' that means that this person is playing for the town aka the goods and it shows by their actions. ( giving hints, trying to find evil, participate a lot, talk or act a way that is not suspicious ) Lynch/Unlynch: When you vote for someone at day phase to kill it's called a lynch. When someone wants you to lynch is that they want you to vote for someone to kill. When you want to remove that lynch/vote to kill, it's called unlynch. Note: Lynches and unlyches must be bolded. "Lynch Munaka" "Unlynch Munaka" SK: It's an abbreviation to the name Serial Killer. SK basically refers to any neutral role that has a killing ability (can kill at night phase), note that it's not always called SK in the role card. It's a dangerous neutral role for both evils and goods so players try to quickly find out which player has that role. Wills: They are not used in every game but sometimes you can write a will in your private PM that will be revealed alongside your Role card when your death is announced. People who have a power role often put info of their actions and results in their will before their death to share the useful information to the town. RR: It's the abbreviation for Role Reveal. Arso: Arso mean Arsonist, it's a role where you can douse people to set them on fire later on. So when people say they were doused, it's because of the actions of an arsonist. Controlled, Bewitched, Witch: Is someone is saying that they have been controlled it's because a certain role that you can sometimes have in your game is called the witch and can play the turn of someone else. It's a neutral role so if you are being controlled it's just mean someone else played your turn, your action didn't count. WW: This one can mean a lot of things. First, WW can be said to talk about a mafia game. ''This WW was fun''. The other meaning is the name Werewolf , in some version the Mafia or Evils are called WW. There is also a Neutral Role named Werewolf so people call it WW. It's a neutral role *check roles PM: Game Master will often say check your pm. In Aeriverse we don't have Private Message but Conversations. That mean check your conversations. You send your actions (if you are a power role) in your PM during night phase. Evils also share a PM together with other evils where they send their actions during night and plan their moves during day. Town: Everyone is town at day. ''Town vote'' ''Town Flopped'' . Town are the name we are giving for everyone when they are good at Day. Mafia, Evils: Mafia is the same as Evil, they are the bad roles. The saying depends of the version. Bandwagon: If you saw someone saying ''this person bandwagon'ed on this lynch'' It's mean that the person follow a lynch that someone made for no actual reason or not giving a good explanation about it. It's usually an evil thing to do most of the time. AFK: Means "Away From Keyboard". "She has been AFK" means the person has not been active. - I'll update it if I find some more - There is a lot of different roles that can be done in a mafia game, it's up to the GM usually. Sometimes The GM can decide to post the role list on the OP or play with a hidden role list ( people don't know what roles are in the game ) If you don't know a role you can search them on Google, usually they explain in details what you can do. If you still have specific questions about your role, ask the GM preferably before the game. Here is a list of roles, not all of them can be played on a forum Good role Tips You must be as helpful as possible throughout the game. Try to be active as people who are not active tend to be suspected. Try not to act suspicious by making last minute lynches. Make educated guesses and provide logical excuses for your lynches. PowerRoles: (i.e Seer, Angel, Ult Good) - Power Role are usually role that need to be protected since they can give an huge advantage to the town when you use them. - If you have this kind of role you and you not too experienced. The best way is to participate actively in the Game, posting a lot and TAKING NOTES of what people. You do not want the town to think your suspicious, you want to avoid being lynched since your role is vital. At the same time, don't be overly vocal through out the game as evils tend to focus those one first. - Don't role reveal early in the game unless you have information that help the good a lot. Evils tend to target power roles during the night phase. Sometimes you have to role reveal in where you have too many lynches on you and you would die. Since your role is important, it's better to reveal your role than dying during day phase. - If some one role reveals as your role, you should call them out. If you don't want to reveal your role then subtly lead the town to lynch them. - Angel: If you have this role, you must keep in mind of (to protect) the most helpful players during day as those are the ones that are most likely targeted during the night by evils. If another power role reveals their role, it is important for you to protect them during night as there is a big chance they might be targeted by evils. - Seer: If you seer someone during night and they are revealed to be evil, try to drive a lynch on them subtly. Give other reasons for your lynch on them; try to find suspicious actions and use that as a reason to lynch them. Later in the game, if the town doesn't listen to you and the situation is dire, you might reveal your role. Knowing someone is good is as important as knowing someone is evil, if you have this role you must try your best to steer the town into making the right decisions. MinorRoles: (i.e Vanilla) - Minor Role are either Vanilla or other good role that not doing much for the town or doesn't have night action that can help to find evils. - If you have this kind of role, the best thing for you to do is appear as good as possible. Participate actively in the game, posting a lot and TAKING NOTES of what people do. - If you see something odd or someone is acting strange don't hesitate to point it out. - You also absolutely need to LYNCH at day. It's extremely important since it's pretty much the only weapon you will have. Lynching someone can be a method to read their role, if many people come to defend them (and they are later revealed as evil), you can take note that those people might have been evil too. - A person's defense to a lynch can say a lot about his role. Don't hesitate to use that all the time and don't feel bad if you lynched someone that was innocent, everyone can make errors. - Share your opinion a lot and if you are killed then it's better you than a power role and you have done the most you can do. Neutral role Tips In general, you are always playing for yourself. You will side with whoever benefits you most.Surviving Role: - Those are roles that require to survive until the end. You just need to win with everyone. - The one thing you can do is help Good side first and if you see that Good is winning, keep going with them or if Mafia are winning then you can side with them, stop helping good to not get killed by evil. - If some people are suspecting you just be sure to use a vest to protect you at night. - If they ask for Role reveal just say you are a survivor and want to survive to get chogiwons. Usually people tend to want Evils or SK dead the most so they will probably ignore you. Winning Alone Role aka SK - This is a more complicated way to win. It usually mean you have a really powerful role that have night immunity and killing power. - Since you have night immunity you might want to side with evil at first since goods usually don't trust the SK. If you kill confirmed Good players at first, you will be able to gain the trust of the evils quickly. - If the mafia side is losing, then you should be able to switch to the goods side. - If you are forced to role reveal, just RR as a vanilla good or a survivor. Winning with Mafia - This one is the easiest way to win usually. You just need to be sure to kill or target Good players. - If you have a role that needs to take control of someone, you could think about controlling a Mafia player role. Perhaps, the evils might want you dead as you keep blocking their kills so you must be really careful with that. - If you are forced to role reveal, just RR as a vanilla good or a survivor. Evils role Tips You must disguise yourself as good as much as possible. Pretend to be helpful during the game, try to be active and ask lots of questions. Make educated guesses and provide logical excuses for your lynches (don't just lynch someone because you want a good dead) Ult Evil Role - If you are evil and you are playing ult, you are immune to night attacks and you have the special ability to be seered as good. - It's a very important role and you should try your best to stay alive as long as possible. - Early in the game, if you are seered you would be trusted however as the game progresses, more people suspect will that you have been seered wrongly especially if you are the last evil remaining. - If you have an item like a Gun that you can use , I recommend using it on a confirmed power Role like Seer. Be sure to use it at a moment when no one will protect this person so that the kill will count; like if the protector has already died. - If you are forced to role reveal, just RR as a vanilla good or survivor. Target Role (i.e. framer, role blocker, vigilante) - Keep in mind that you might be revealed if you had targeted a player who was being watched. - If you are forced to role reveal, just RR as a vanilla good. - You can also role reveal as a survivor (neutral role), a good role blocker if you are the evil role blocker, the good vigilante if you are the evil one. - Framer: Keep in mind the good players that are acting suspiciously, try to predict the actions of the good seer. If you are lucky you might be able to frame a good by having them seered evil. Also, experienced players are usually seered early by the goods as they are hard to read in general. - Role Blocker: Role block the people you suspect have power roles. Seer Role - Try to find the people who you suspect are power roles. Power roles are usually more quiet yet still helpful during the day. A good seer would be someone who seems to have good judgment. - If people want to mass role reveal you can role reveal as the good ability seer, it's rare that goods have a ability seer but it can happen. You can give them your information if it's really needed, usually people tend to protect seer at night especially when they reveal so you can save some time like that. Overall tips on how to play -Be sure to take note of everything that goes on the game- It's really important __________ Good Gameplay Tips: - ALWAYS TAKE NOTES, open a doc to write while you play, notes of lynches, roles, deaths. - Take notes of role reveals, write it down if needed. - Take notes of deaths, because someone might role reveal as someone who already got lynched and you might miss it.- Keep in mind of actions that appear good and those that appear evil; for example: - Evils wouldn't be a deciding lynch on another evil (very rarely) - Usually if someone is lynching back it's a really suspicious move, evil move most of the time. - Evils may bandwagon on a lynch on another evil if there was no hope to save them (but they won't be the lynch that gets them killed, like if an evil has 4 lynches on them and there is no way they would stay alive, an evil might bandwagon to make themselves seem good) - People who usually talk a lot off topic, don't contribute to the game are usually the one who are evils.- You also absolutely need to LYNCH at day. It's extremely important since it's pretty much the only weapon you will have. Lynching someone can be a method to read their role, if many people come to defend them (and they are later revealed as evil), you can take note that those people might have been evil too. - Don't get stressed if you lynch the bad person, it's normal it can happen. - If someone lynches you : DEFEND DEFEND DEFEND. Don't let them lynch you especially if you have an important role. If defending fails then RR but don't do it at the last minute because the town might not be able to unlynch you in time. - You can lynch but also UNLYNCH, use it too. Try lynching someone to see a reaction, you can unlynch it after if needed.- Ask questions, LOTS of questions. Ask other players who they suspect, ask other players who they think is good. - Later in the game, if you still can't find the evils and the situations looks bad for the goods, ask players to role reveal. Even if the already have, make sure they don't change their stories. Make everyone state their roles and what all of their actions have been, if everyone make it all together you can actually find some things you didn't find before, it's like a puzzle. - If you have wills, update them constantly in case you are suspecting you are dying next day or night. - If someone is confirmed evil, do not listen to them. Ignore all their posts as they might say things that will throw you off and confuse even more. - Don't go AFK or only posting 1 time a day, that doesn't help the game at all, it will only result in people suspecting you more. - Don't play the ''I'm new'' card if you are good, you are just confusing everyone instead ask questions and try your best to understand the game. - If you are playing with the same person multiple times in a row, you can find signs easily about when she is good and when she is evil, people usually have 2 different gameplay and if you played with them a lot, try to remember how this person played as good and how this person played as evil. This comes with experience. - If you are confused about your role, ask the GM if possible before the game. If you can't then ask the GM through PM during the game. Be sure to be specific and not just "I'm confused about everything, I don't understand anything''. Evil Gameplay Tips: - Try to look as good as possible, be active in the game and don't go AFK. - Ask questions, LOTS of questions. Ask other players who they suspect, ask other players who they think is good. - If someone lynches you : DEFEND DEFEND DEFEND. If you are forced to than RR as a vanilla good. - If any good player is being suspected by the town, try to agree with the town and push a lynch on them. Try to frame good players and provide logical explanations to why you are lynching them. - Reasons for a lynch could include: "The player isn't being active", "the player isn't being helpful", "the player is avoiding lynches" & etc.- Bandwagoning on a lynch is a good idea if there is no way your evil comrade can be saved, some people might be tricked into trusting you since you helped take down an evil. - If an evil is being lynched don't get nervous and be obvious by defending them. Try to be low key or try to throw the suspicions on another player. Personally for me, I don't defend an evil at all when I'm evil unless they are ult evil. In the end, you only need on evil to stay alive to win the mafia. - As an evil you want the ult evil to stay in the game since it is a role that can be seered as good and is immune to night kills. - Do not kills players randomly during the night, be smart with your kills. Kill people who you suspect have power roles Kill players that are confirmed good (by the seer or by them leading a lynch on an evil) Kill players that are being very helpful Avoid killing players who trust you as good Avoid killing messy players, or players that are being suspected by many (as you can push a lynch on them during the day) - If you are confused about what actions you should do, or you don't know how to play evil; ask the other players in your evil pm for help. - If you are confused about your role, ask the GM if possible before the game. If you can't then ask the GM through PM during the game. Be sure to be specific and not just "I'm confused about everything, I don't understand anything''
